Transitions and daily routines can be challenging for young learners. Why not bring creativity to your procedures and help students move through their day with more ease? Creative movement routines support self-awareness, mindful navigation of hallways and classrooms, peer relationships, and coping with stress and anxiety. In this valuable session, creative mover and curriculum specialist Jessica McHugh guides you in implementing movement-based routines that set the stage for mindful learning and classroom success all year long!

The Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is designed to support local school systems by providing professional learning in the arts for teachers. Workshops are open to any area teacher or school administrator, and are a fun, valuable opportunity to gain contact hours towards Continuing Education Credits (CEUs). Inducted in 2010, the Mansfield team is one of less than 100 partnership sites in the nation, and includes: The Mansfield City Schools, The Mansfield Art Center, and The Renaissance Performing Arts Organization. The Ohio 2010 team is generously sponsored by Charles P. Hahn of Cleveland Financial, with additional funding from the Ohio Arts Council.

About Jessica McHugh

Jessica holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education as well as a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Theater Arts from Rutgers University, New Jersey. Jessica was born with a passion for creative movement. She believes movement is a universal language, and as one of her students once stated, “some things just can’t be expressed in words, they must be shared through dance!” She has been joyfully integrating the arts and facilitating project-based learning in Pre-K to 12th grade classrooms since 2006, and she’s led professional development workshops for teachers and school leaders since 2013. In 2019, she was a recipient of the Leadership in Arts Education Award from The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. She is the Arts Integration Specialist for Any Given Child Sarasota, a national consultant, and a coach and mentor to educators, teaching artists and leaders across the nation.
