The Board of Directors of the Renaissance Performing Arts Association has announced its search for a new Choral Director for the Mansfield Symphony Chorus (Mansfield, Ohio). 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Choral Director is responsible for the artistic preparation and development of the Mansfield Symphony Chorus.  The Choral Director works in close consultation with the Conductor/Music Director and the Artistic Director. His/her authority is to be exercised within the guidelines established by the Board of Trustees.  

 

Artistic Responsibilities

 

As needed and in conjunction with the MSO Music Director and Renaissance Performing Arts Artistic Director, the Choral Director gives input on possible repertoire for MSO season concerts. In addition, he or she will work closely with the staff of Renaissance Performing Arts to select repertoire for choral-only performances within limits set by the budget. The Choral Director possesses sole responsibility for rehearsing and preparing the ensemble for performances.

 

Administrative Responsibilities 

 

The Choral Director serves as a liaison between administrative staff, Music Director, and chorus members; is familiar with and works within the limits established by RPA’s budget; coordinates recruitment and auditions for new members; and communicates technical needs to the Renaissance stage crew in advance of performances. In addition, he or she will advise the Board of Trustees on matters which concern the overall development of the Mansfield Symphony Chorus, and oversee Chorus Committee meetings and functions. In consultation with the Music Director, the Choral Director ensures appropriate complement of singers for rehearsals and concerts, including replacements, soloists, and/or extra singers as needed. 

 

Requirements 

 

Exceptional musicianship and conducting skills; thorough knowledge of both classical and pops choral and symphonic choral repertoire; significant experience conducting a choral ensemble; congenial personality; evidence of successful collaboration with others, including administrative staff, Board, and musicians, other ensembles, affiliated community organizations, and artists in various media; effective rehearsal technique; strong interpersonal and leadership skills; the ability to handle conflict with diplomacy.

 

Preferred skills

 

The ideal candidate for the position of MSO Choral Director has experience working with a professional orchestra; a strong awareness of community appeal in programming; a Master’s degree in choral conducting or equivalent degree/experience.

Compensation:

 

RPA will pay the Choral Director for his/her services a rate of One Hundred Twenty dollars ($120.00) per service not to exceed a total of $1,500 per concert set. Negotiable pending accompanist needs.
