Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Sensory-Friendly) will celebrate MY Theatre’s fifth season of sensory-friendly performances of youth theatre musicals for families with children and adults on the autism-spectrum and other developmental disabilities. MY Theatre’s Sensory-Friendly performances began with Shrek: The Musical in 2017, and the program has continued to engage and excite audience members of all ages. Musicals are performed in a friendly, supportive environment with slight adjustments to the production, including the reduction of any jarring sounds or lights focused into the audience area. Within the theatre, there is a quiet and play area, if family members need to leave their seats during the performance. For these special performances, no-cost, limited seating is available to individuals and families with developmental disabilities. For additional information regarding our Sensory-Friendly Performances, please contact Dauphne Maloney, 419-522-2726, ext. 212, or [email protected].
Based upon one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is an incredibly beautiful love story for audience members of all ages. Featuring music by Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and book by Doug Wright, this fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Part of Your World." In a magical kingdom under the seas, Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above and pursue the human, Prince Eric. She bargains with the sea witch, Ursula, to trade her voice for human legs. But, the bargain is not as it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her friends, Flounder, Scuttle, and Sebastian, to restore order under the sea.
Performed by the youth of the Mansfield Youth Theatre, with direction by Dauphne Maloney and musical direction by Brian K. Nabors, Disney's The Little Mermaid is an enduring, charming family musical, which reminds us that love truly can conquer all.
