MY Theatre: Disney's Descendants: The Musical (Sensory-Friendly)

Disney's Descendants: The Musical (Sensory-Friendly) will close MY Theatre’s fifth season of sensory-friendly performances of youth theatre musicals for families with children and adults on the autism-spectrum and other developmental disabilities. This production is best suited for those audience members who are 12 years of age and older, and their families; but audience members of any age may attend. MY Theatre’s Sensory-Friendly performances began with Shrek: The Musical in 2017, and the program has continued to engage and excite audience members of all ages. Musicals are performed in a friendly, supportive environment with slight adjustments to the production, including the reduction of any jarring sounds or lights focused into the audience area. Within the theatre, there is a quiet and play area, if family members need to leave their seats during the performance. For these special performances, no-cost, limited seating is available to individuals and families with developmental disabilities. Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical comedy featuring the beloved characters and hit songs from the film trilogy.

In the present-day kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the villains and sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the son of Belle and The Beast, offers redemption to the troublemaking children of Disney’s evilest villains - Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar. The evil offspring are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. By entering a completely foreign world and new way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

Offering a universal message that everyone starts as an innocent, and should be judged by their actions, and not those of others, the MY Theatre production, directed by Dauphne Maloney and with musical direction by Brian K. Nabors, Descendants features an energetic score including, “Rotten to the Core,” “Evil Like Me,” and “Good is the New Bad.”
