Discover how to spark storytelling in young learners through accessible, hands-on creative activities in this engaging professional development workshop led by internationally respected storyteller and teaching artist Lyn Ford. Educators will learn replicable craft and art techniques designed to inspire both spoken and written word in the classroom—encouraging students to find and share their own stories as orature or literature.

Part of the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education program, this workshop is offered in collaboration with the Mansfield Art Center and Mansfield City Schools. Participants will gain practical tools to support language development, classroom engagement, and creative expression, while earning contact hours toward Continuing Education Credits (CEUs).

About Our Teaching Artist

Lyn Ford is a fourth-generation Affrilachian storyteller, nationally and internationally recognized for her work rooted in Black Appalachian heritage. With over 30 years of teaching and storytelling experience, Lyn is an award-winning author, teaching artist, and mentor with the Ohio Arts Council and Thurber House. Her work has impacted learners across the U.S., Australia, Ireland, and beyond.
